Elise sighed, hunched over as they watched the containers of blood nearby fill up by the minute. They’d had bloodwork done before - and they were sure that there was far more blood being drawn out of their body right now than the typical visit. What the hell did CERCNA need from this?
Oh well, at least they weren’t getting fired now. And at least they had an excuse to sit tight and ignore any request of aid from Chimeric victims.
They thought back to the creature they had seen in the liquid, a few days ago; by God, it was so ugly. And they wanted them to be some kind of surrogate blood donor to it? Like some kind of mommy? Elise didn’t know what to think. But in the end, it was above their payroll.
CERCNA. Chimeric Extermination and Research; Compulsory National Affiliate. An awkward title if anything - the name was as mysterious as the organization’s goals.
They awkwardly propped up a document that they’d brought with them with their left hand. While were they unable to work, they could at least refresh their mind on the nature of the beasts.
It listed a list of the most notable Chimeras and their features - it was only a list of fifty or so, given their recent arrival. But all were big, all were terrible, and all had supposedly come in contact with a “xenal lifeform”, like the one that Elise had viewed only a few days prior. Xeno-fetal lifeform - supposedly some alien egg that “hatched” into a mature form by fusing with a willing human.
How they communicated with humanity? No one had any clue. But all Chimeras had been all-too-willing to tell each and every human how foolish and stupid they were for staying in that form.
Such as… Bowler? Whatever one the most recent creature she’d fought was.
In the end, they had no idea why anyone let that damned bird creature to live, and why they had to be the specific donor.
Their mind drifted into a fantasy; a vision, almost, where they were able to get their hands on the creature. To get their hands around the thing’s spindly neck, to see its bulbous, ugly eyes nearly pop out of its giant, freakish head as it struggled, as Elise got rid of the threat before it could do anything…
